Like Human Beings cats also inherit some health disorders from their forefathers. That is why some health problems are associated with some specific purebred cats and we can easily make guess from which health disorder our cat may suffer in future.Norwegian Forest cats are domestic cats and therefore have good immune system to fight with most of the diseases. However they may suffer from some specific health disorders that are explained below.

HYPERTROPHIC CARDIOMYOPATHY:
This is a well know heart disorder.Norwegian Forest cats have tendency to develop Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy. This particular heart disease affects almost all members of feline world. This disease is caused by thickening of the inner heart muscle that prevents the normal blood flow and affect the working of heart. This disease can also appear in early days of kitten and can cause immature death.A cat needs a yearly scan to keep it confirmed that it is not suffering from HCM.

HIP DYSPLASIA:
This is an inherited disorder most of the cat breeds suffer from.Actually a hip joint has two main components a ball and a socket. In this disease the ball and socket in the hip joint does not fit together as a result are no longer able to bear the pressure and cause massive friction in joints. This disease usually appears in the early age of a cat's life.It can badly affect the physical activity of your cat and would gradually make it too weak.

HAIR BALLS:
This disease is also common in almost all cat breeds. All cats like to be clean and they would do it themselves if you are not doing it regularly and that is the biggest reason behind Hairballs in cats. When a cat grooms itself the hair enters into his mouth from where they make their way through digestive system and cause Hairballs.Regular grooming and careful grooming is surely the best medicine for Hairballs.Try to groom your American Wirehair with wet hands in case to prevent Hairballs
